BVTCC Round 5 Donington Park Race Report and Highlights
Round 5 of the BVTCC saw no less than 17 drivers take the harder compound the least favorable tyre of the two here at Donington Park. Hoggard started on pole but was to find out just how bad they were as he got off the line to find him self tumble down the order. Lewis made the jump and took the lead, a position he never looked like giving away as he started to build a gap but for their remaining positions on the podium was anyone guess.
A race long battle between English, Kell, Richards,Benton,Barker and Crain as positions swapped numerous times. Dan Kell however fell out of contention with a rare mistake at the chicane and hitting the barrier sustaining enough damage to retire from the race. But this battle for the podium was going all the way to the chequred flag. Richards was closing on Lewis but a mistake saw him drop back which then caused a train of cars for the final few laps. The deciding moves came on the last lap as English brilliantly found a way through Richards as Crain pounced on a gap on Benton.
Benjamin Lewis however has made his mark on the BVTCC with an outstanding debut win with defending champion Chris English second and Matt Richards in third. Benton also taking his second independent win of the day
P1 -Ben Lewis – oh.. my.. god.. ecstatic mate honestly did not expect to get a win 2nd round into the year, my first year so happy, I knew I had to get Hoggard off the start and we were all a bit surprised how quick the lights went out, but i stuck it round and just managed tyres and the gap to Matt now got to do my best with max weight and hard tyres
P3-Matt Richards – was an odd one, car felt weird on the hard compound. They came alive around lap 4, so I pushed while I had the chance and gained some time on Ben. around lap 9 or 10 they just went off and the car became quite difficult to handle, had 2 off’s and lost all the time to Chris. A stunner of a move by Chris meant I was down to P3 but silver linings means that I ha less weight for the final race
Indy Winner- Kyle Benton- cant stop smiling after that race, what a race that was. Action overtakes all over the place. very happy with my result even tho Crain sneaked through on the last lap. Great move by him. Another Indy win so i am happy with weight too as expected to fall off.
